CRASH is an E rated game which takes place in a toy box. The goal for this game is to crash into the opposing enemy as many times as you can in five minutes.
This term on my Level 3 Game Design Course, I have been developing a game called “CRASH”. The project is inspired by the popular “Rocket League” football game, but with cars. CRASH relates to Rocket League due to the use of cars. However, has a completely different goal and feel.
During my progression this term, I further developed my skills and knowledge using Unreal Engine 4 and through my classroom discussions with tutors and peers. There are a number of skills I improved. One example of this is my speaking skills and general communication. I believe the way I improved on this is due to constantly discussing new ideas with my class. Another example of skills I have improved is organisation. Continuously adding new information to my blog has enabled me to understand my progress and what I’ve achieved. Professionalism is also developed in this way. A final skill I believe I have improved is teamwork. This skill has greatly improved through the development of CRASH because my team mate and I have worked together on the project from the beginning. This has created a strong bond working between us.
My knowledge during this term has greatly improved. At the beginning of the course, I had no idea of how to use any type of components in the Unreal Engine. Now, I have a great amount of knowledge on how to create assets like static meshes, create and add split screen to a game, and implement Blueprint functions like a timer and a health bar.

One of my main strengths when developing a game would be creating the environment. This is because I get to use my creative imagination to the best of my ability and not worry about the consequences. Another strength I have is creating logo designs. I created the main identity for the game we are developing. I believe this is a strength because I really enjoy being able to use creativity in my ideas to make something original and memorable for an audience.
One area that I want to develop further when developing games would be using Blueprints. Blueprints is the visual scripting system inside Unreal Engine 4 and is a fast way to start testing your game. Instead of having to write code line by line, you do everything visually. Creating a timer for the game, for example, was tough. The timer was one of the biggest components I have made when making the game CRASH. Another area I would like to develop in is making different types of power ups for CRASH such as speed and shield. After finishing the components for the timer, I and my teammate noticed that the timer would start ticking down as normal starting from 5 minutes after it finished counting 1 minute, the timer would then decrease down to the last 30 seconds. We were able to solve this issue in the end by noticing the countdown component was wrong.

My performance while creating CRASH has been positive. One way this was positively shown was due to my commitment. I have attended every class and accepted constructive criticism that my class has given me which helped me further improve CRASH.
In conclusion, all the knowledge, skills and experience I have gained will come in great use for the rest of my course and the future because it will help me create new games with new teams of people and develop professionally as a game designer.
